Yeah, the Power Rangers fic broke 12,000 words.
And I think that's just the end of the first act. If you follow screenwriting guidelines, the second act is twice the size of the first act, and the third act is about the same size as the first act. I swear to you, if I write 50,000 words of Power Rangers fan fic, you bitches better appreciate it.
It's Rocky/Billy, though it hasn't quite gotten there completely yet (they've kissed!), and as I'm dealing with Power Rangers, I'm glossing over anything remotely political or indicative of being a non-straight teenager in suburbia in the early 90s. There are fandoms that are built to take a long, serious look at the human condition and reality, and there are fandoms where teenagers wear color-coded t-shirts and try to make "Morphinominal" a catchphrase.
That does not, however, stop me from pointing out some of the weirder/creepier/more hilarious aspects of the Ranger-verse. Such as the following:
“That’s not fair,” Kim said. “Zordon doesn’t hold back stuff from us.”
“Do we know that?” Adam asked. “I mean, does anyone ever get sort of creeped out by the fact that the viewing globe lets Zordon see everything?” There was a long pause. Adam made a face. “I just made everyone think about that for the first time, didn’t I?”
“Yeah…” Tommy said slowly. He scrunched up his face. “I don’t want to think about that.”
“I don’t either,” Kim said.
“Ew,” Aisha added.
“That is really creepy,” Rocky said.
“I am suddenly concerned for my mental well-being,” Billy announced. He squeezed his eyes closed.
The entire set up of the story actually plays with a lot of the fandom tropes, so I hope it doesn't suck. I'm sure
moonsong42 will pop up to point out I wrote two pages about Smoothies, so maybe it's right on track.
