Title: Preservation Techniques
Author: Perpetual Motion
Fandom: Magnificent 7
Pairing: Ezra/Vin
Rating: G
Summary: Insight, as they do it.
Disclaimer: I don’t own any rights except the fun thoughts in my head.
Author’s Notes: There's been a rash of "drabbles" and "double drabbles" on parts of my flist recently. None of them fit my definition [drabble-100 words which can stand alone as a scene; double-drabble-Two 100 word scenes, each which could stand alone if taken separately]. So, rather than just telling, I'm showing. Ta-da.

Shoulder. Hip. Hand.
It’s where Ezra keeps his guns, where Ezra has his scars, and while Vin’s not the most educated man, he fully understands the associations. Ezra protects where he’s been hurt. A four-inch scar over his shoulder blade, a gouge mark on the flat of his rip, a thin white line in the web of his thumb. Vin’s seen them all, touched them all, and shared a few of his own in return. He’s seen, he’s touched, but he’s never asked; just positions himself to Ezra’s back so he won’t have to start carrying a gun there, too.]

He thinks the quietness is not naturally occurring. The way Vin laughs occasionally, head back, mouth wide, tells of a man who started life less seriously. The quietness, Ezra suspects, is grief. Vin had been a boy with a home, with a mother. He hardened himself, quieted himself, trying to make himself invisible. But that laugh tells of a joyous, unfettered child.
Ezra coaxes that laugh whenever he can. Spins tales of gold and embarrassment to get that sound. The Vin he has is mostly-silent perfection, but that laugh tells of another man, and Ezra wishes dearly to meet him.
