It is sorely tempting to come up with a scene for Cain and Glitch where Cain gets to use the phrase, "You're using a straw man. You should know better than that."

I imagine he and Glitch/Ambrose having some debate, and Glitch/Ambrose tries to turn away from the main point, and Cain completely calls him on it.

It will not, sadly, work into the fic I'm plugging away on now. Although I am trying to work "sweetheart" in there somewhere. Most likely sarcastically. No matter the general squee of fandom, I do not see Cain as a man to employee nicknames unless they are, in fact, sarcastic. [And, yes, I do count the way he says "princess" amongst that rule. I think it started out sarcastic, and then it just stuck.]

I'm a good writer. I know this, not because I get feedback telling me so, but because I know that I can get a grip on a character, put that character into a situation, and follow through until the bitter, bitter end.

And the feedback I get is a nice reminder, and I do appreciate it, but I wonder, sometimes, what it'd be to be one of those writers that people fall over to make happy. As far as I know, I've never been a Big Name Fan. If you know of some secret shrine to me, I'd love to hear about it, but overall I'm well aware that my appeal comes from being able to make it short, sweet, and to the point.

I'm cool with that. I like short, sweet, and to the point. I take pride in being able to throw out a couple thousand words max and have people enjoy it. I like that people look forward to what I can throw out there.

Recently, those short and sweet pieces have turned into long, drawn-out, character-driven madness. There's 14,000 words here, another 29,000 words there, and now the "Tin Man" fic, which is coming up on 12,000 words pretty fast. And I can't help but wonder what the reaction would be if I was the aforementioned BNF.

In short, I'm being a ridiculous dipshit woh usually appreciates the affection she gets [because you lot do give me a lot], but perhaps my ego just needs a stroking, or perhaps I just need to stop reading [livejournal.com profile] fandomsecrets, because I'm sitting here and honestly thinking about it like the fact that I'm liked isn't good enough. And that's crap.

Feel free to roll your eyes and tell me to shut it. I'm already rolling my eyes at myself.
