On one of the comms I frequent, there's a woman trying to sell her fan fic novella. She's attempted it once before, and I thought it was tacky then, and I think it's tacky now. My issue is not that she's selling her fic [maybe it'll help pay her legal fees if she gets busted], my issue is that she's coming into a fic comm, posting the ad, and expecting people to buy based on a description and a bit of text. I don't buy most books from reading the back; I'm not going to buy a fan fic from a six line description. Also, like I said, I think selling it in a fic community is tacky. So I commented on the entry as follows [the first line is hers]:

I am doing this for the same reason all writers write. I have something to say and I would love it if others enjoyed it too.

Then post it to the list and stop charging money. What you're doing, in coming to the comm and shiling your novella, is just annoying and rude. This is a place for fic, not advertising. I'm sure there's an lj comm for selling your fan fic. Go find it, and don't post here unless you actually want to post a fic.

I got a reply from who I assume is the original poster [the comment was anonymous] that said, "Thank you for your opinion." Then I got this:

Oh GROW UP!!!

It's from an anonymous poster, but I don't think it's from the original anonymous. As I detest people posting order anonymously, I posted the following:

This coming from someone who remains anonymous when making demands in captial letters.

Where's my immaturity? I'm stating my opinion on the matter.

And then I had a good laugh. Oh, my, the internets have told me but good.

Is this the person who was advertising her "slash novella" with "original characters"? I found that amusing, since MY definition of slash wouldn't include original characters who were INTENDED to be in a relationship...

I don't think so. She's pimping a "Criminal Minds" fic.

Isn't writing a story about two same sex characters in a relationship just a love story?

I would certainly have thought so, but of course that would have negated THAT particular author's alleged "hook" into the community she advertised her work in

Oh, of course. Forget original fic comms, pimp your shit in places it doesn't fit.
