Yesterday on fandom_secrets, a secret was posted wherein someone tore apart drabbles. They're stupid, and silly and if you really want to prove you can write, you should write real stories.
And you know? The person is who wrote the secret is right. If you want to prove you can write, write a big, long story with all kinds of twists and turns. If you want to prove you can edit write a drabble of 100 words that comes out as a full, emotional scene.
On a side note, the first round of requests for holiday ficlets [or drabbles, depending on how I write the idea] has been fulfilled.
