Title: Proper Dress
Author: Perpetual Motion
Pairing: Roy/Hal
Rating: PG
Summary: She's got the ring. She's got the willpower. She needs a uniform.

Disclaimer: Complete lies. I lay claim to absolutely nothing.

Author's Notes/Warnings: This is set after "Tornado's Path" but not in any particular point in recent JLA canon. Written for the [livejournal.com profile] dcu_freeforall. The prompt was "spandex".

Lian rotates the ring around her finger and makes it flash up a mannequin in Hal’s costume.

“Not a bad choice,” Hal says with a grin.

The mannequin switches into a green version of Roy’s costume.

“Please, no,” Roy insists. “You’d look like Ollie, and he would never stop bragging.”

“I don’t want spandex,” Lian says and rotates the mannequin. “I don’t need the whole universe to know the exact shape of my ass.”

“You could make it jeans,” Hal suggests. “Or a skirt.”

Lian snorts. “Yeah. No.”

Roy chuckles. “How about jeans and a T-shirt? No one says you have to follow the basic look.”

“Look at Guy’s old costume,” Hal says with a smirk. “That collar was all him.”

“Why’s there so much low-cut stuff on the female Lanterns?” Lian makes the neckline on the mannequin drop into a deep vee. “I never got that. Like, most of the female Lanterns are about to fall out of their tops.”

“Earth is incredibly old-fashioned about nudity,” Hal explains. “Uniforms are meant to be professional, and Earth standards say that uniforms should be modest.”

“We’re okay with modest,” Roy interjects. “The Old Man and I are completely okay with modest.”

Lian grins. “Like that’s a shock.” She turns the neckline into a square neck with white piping. “Is it warm inside the glow?”

“It regulates to your body temperature, but I’ve never really noticed it.”

The mannequin gets short sleeves. Lian puts it in a pair of pants and gives it a belt. The belt buckle is the Lantern symbol.

“Steel-toed boots,” Roy suggests.

“Definitely,” Hal agrees with a nod.

“Okay.” Lian adds boots to the ensemble. She makes the mannequin turn in a slow circle. “I like it,” she decides with a sharp nod. The mannequin fades, and a few seconds later, Lian’s suited up. “Well?”

“Pull back your hair,” Hal tells her. “Killowog will use it against you in training.”

“There are Lanterns who don’t wear it back,” Lian says, confused.

“Because they proved they could work with it, but Killowog threw them around before he accepted it.”

Lian’s hair gets pulled into a low ponytail with a Lantern-shaped clasp. “Better?”

“You look good, kiddo,” Roy says, beaming.

“100% Lantern approved,” Hal says with a smile of his own. “You’re going to do the Corps proud.”

“Thanks.” Lian’s smile lights up her face.

“What about a mask?” Roy asks after a pause.

“Meh,” Lian says with a shrug. “Not like people won’t figure it out.”

“We’re proud of you,” Hal says.

“And we love you,” Roy adds.

Lian smiles at Hal and Roy pull her into a hug. “Love you, too,” she says.
