15minuteficlets challenge of the week. If you can guess what Bobby has, I’ll give you a special cookie. If you can’t, I’ll tell you and then give you a special cookie. Also for Charlotte D. who requested Goren/Carver. She wanted them dancing, but they’ve been uncooperative. I hope you enjoy this, dear.

He’s having trouble thinking. He’s having trouble functioning. There’s a word for it, but he can’t quite remember what it is. All he can remember is that it begins with a ‘d’.
“Discombobulated.”
Bobby blinks, and his fingers tap out a not-quite-rhythm on his own thigh. He stares at Ron. “Yeah. That’s it.”
Ron stands up from his desk and takes the six steps across his office so that he’s standing over Bobby, who is lying on his couch. “Did you take your vitamins today?” It sounds like such a silly question, but it’s important.
“I…” Bobby squeezes his eyes shut and shakes his head back and forth. “I don’t remember.”
“What have you eaten today?”
“A sandwich. I think.”
Ron sighs, more out of habit than actual exasperation, and walks to his desk phone. Eames is number three on his speed dial. He listens to the phone ring and watches Bobby’s left foot shake back and forth spasmodically.
“Eames.”
“It’s me. What has Bobby eaten today?”
“He had a sandwich and a soda.”
“What brand of soda?”
“Pepsi, I think.” Eames doesn’t sound confused by the questions. She’s used to them by now.
Ron shakes his head. “Was it specialty bread?” He can’t help but smile when Eames curses.
“Shit. I forgot to make him check. It probably wasn’t.” She curses again. “Is he all right?”
“He’ll be fine. He forgot to take his vitamins this morning.”
“He took something this morning.” Eames sounds worried. “Two blue pills.”
Ron glances at Bobby again. Bobby is lying very, very still, and it is obvious that he’s making himself be still. “I’ll check. Thanks.”
“Yeah.”
Ron hangs up the phone and watches Bobby stay still. “What were the blue pills?”
“Huh?” Bobby’s obvious very deep in his own head looking for some peace.
“Eames said you took two blue pills this morning.”
Bobby opens his eyes, and it seems to set off every nervous tic he has. “Blue pills?”
“Yeah. Blue pills.”
Bobby shakes his head. “Nothing. They were nothing. Aspirin.”
Ron breathes a little easier. Bobby wouldn’t intentionally take something to hurt himself, but with the new diet they’re trying out, they don’t know what could hurt him. “Okay.” He walks back across the office and crouches by Bobby. “You had Pepsi.”
“I had Coke.”
“Did you ask specifically if they had Coke products?” Ron knows, by the sudden tightening of Bobby’s features, that he forgot to ask. “It’s okay. We’re still new at this.”
Bobby makes a face. “We.”
“Yes,” Ron strokes the back of Bobby’s hand and smiles with pride when Bobby’s hand stops twitching. “I’m just as involved in this as you are.” He can tell Bobby wants to argue.
“You can still eat whatever you want.”
“But I don’t.”
“But you could. I don’t see you all the time.”
Ron shakes his head in amusement. “You see me enough.”
Bobby smiles a little, and he turns his hand over so that he’s palm-to-palm with Ron. “I guess so.” He puts his weight on his elbows and pushes himself into a half-reclining position. “I forgot to check the bread.”
“Eames mentioned that, too. She feels a little guilty.”
“It’s not her job to look after me.” Bobby sounds a little disgusted.
“It’s not like you look after yourself.” Ron smiles to take the sting from the words and stands up. Bobby stands with him. “You okay?”
“I’ll manage.” Bobby smoothes his suit jacket. His hands are still trying to move of their own accord. “I’ll get some water. I have my vitamins in my desk.”
“Okay.” Ron takes a step back and lets Bobby walk towards the door. “Call me when you get back to the office.”
Bobby’s smile is distracted but genuine. “I will.” He waves, fingers twitching, and leaves.
Ron sits back down at his desk and wonders how much longer they’ll have to wait for the new diet to show some sign of working.
