Anniversaries
By Perpetual Motion

Finals were never Larry’s best time. There was something about a week of tests that seemed to consistently ruin all his organization, schedules, and ability to get work done in a timely manner. Finals caused him to miss lunches, meetings, funding sessions, and most everything else that may have been scrawled in his day planner weeks or months in advance. It wasn’t until Charlie showed up in his office with a box in one hand and his car keys in the other that Larry remembered that they had an anniversary.

“You forgot.”

“I might have.”

Charlie smiled and shook his head. “You’re a theoretical physicist, and *finals* confuse you?”

“It’s all the paper, I think.” Larry waved a hand around to encompass the stacks of paper that were littering his office. “It’s everywhere.”

“At least tell me you cleared enough time for lunch.”

“I don’t know.” Larry checked his calendar and cocked his head. “I can’t read my writing.”

Charlie dropped his box onto the only clear space on Larry’s desk and pocketed his keys. “We’ll order in, just in case you have an appointment.”

Larry looked at the package and felt guilty. “Charles, I didn’t mean to forget.”

“You never do.” Charlie’s voice was warm. “C’mon, Larry. I’ve known you for thirteen years. I know your quirks.” He nudged the box nearer to Larry. “I also know your weaknesses.” His smile was slightly wicked.

With the bit of wariness that he reserved for presents from Charlie ever since the incident with the obscene T-shirt written in equations, Larry opened the box. It was full of rolls of Smarties and three-packs of Sweet Tarts. He shook his head. “This is not what I need this week.”

“Those are exactly what you need this week.” Charlie leaned forward and stole a roll of Smarties from the pile. “And before you go on about how you need to stay healthy during this very stressful time, let me remind you of last year when you attempted to get through Christmas finals with green tea and aromatherapy.”

Larry couldn’t argue with the results. He’d been absolutely useless for the whole week. He was a man who ran on sugar and junk when the stress was high. “Pizza for lunch, then?”

“That’s fine.” Charlie watched Larry dial in the pizza and stole another roll of Smarties. When Larry gave him a falsely reproving look, Charlie chuckled around his mouthful of candy. “If you want it so badly, come and get it.” He nearly choked when Larry gave him a look that made the hairs on the back of his neck stand up. “Larry.”

“You-yes, I’d like to order a large pepperoni pizza with extra cheese and hand-tossed crust…no, thank you…Larry…Physcis building, room 246…thank you.” Larry hung up the phone and pointed a finger. “You started it.”

Charlie tried to speak around the sugar burn in his throat. “I-“ he was cut off by a coughing fit. When he recovered, Larry was still giving him the look. “I regret nothing.” Charlie jumped in his seat when his cell phone let out a shrill. He fumbled it out of his pocket and checked caller ID. “It’s Don.” He flipped his phone open. “Hey…yeah, I’m done for the day…I’ll meet you outside.” He folded his phone shut and gave Larry an apologetic look. “I’ve got to go.”

“All right. I’ll see you later, then?”

Charlie smiled. “Of course.” He leaned across the desk until his nose bumped Larry’s. “Not much of an anniversary.”

Larry smiled back. “I don’t even know what anniversary we’re celebrating.”

“Larry?”

“Yes, Charles?”

“You’re hopeless.”

“So you never forget to remind me.” Larry poked Charlie in the chest. “Call me when you’re done.”

“I could be done late.”

“Like I’ll be asleep.” Larry waved a hand to encompass the sheer mess that his desk had become. “Just call me.”

“I will.” Charlie bumped his nose against Larry’s, grinned, and headed for the door. “Save me some pizza.”

“Of course.” Larry settled into his desk chair and pulled the nearest stack of papers towards him. He was so immersed by the time the pizza arrived that it took him a full two minutes to even remember ordering it. He offered the delivery boy a healthy tip and a handful of candy as apology.

Awww. I love Larry. He's so CUTE and funny.

(And I love it how he calls Charlie "Charles.")

The lawn equipment in the finale was AWESOME. I had a good giggle.

SQUEE! Such cuteness. They are so adorkably in character, I love it. You write them so, so well.

With the bit of wariness that he reserved for presents from Charlie ever since the incident with the obscene T-shirt written in equations, Larry opened the box.

Dude, I totally want to hear the story behind this shirt.

Finals were never Larry’s best time. There was something about a week of tests that seemed to consistently ruin all his organization, schedules, and ability to get work done in a timely manner.

Awwww, Larry. *giggles& You're so cute and hopeless with time management.

I love Charlie knowing Larry's quirks, and Larry needing junk food to function, and I really loved Larry not being able to read his own writing. Socute.

*loves*
