Wherein I talk Nascar.
Feb. 17th, 2008 08:32 pmYeah, you read that right. I'm a Nascar girl. I grew up watching with my dad and brothers and specifically went down for a visit this weekend so that Dad and I could watch the Daytona 500 together. Things I've deduced, re: the 500:
1. Kyle Busch is a dick, and he needs to get his head out of his ass and stop driving like an idiot. Yeah, he's a talented bastard, but that doesn't mean shit when you're all over the track and a hazard to everyone around you.
2. Earnhardt landing 9th makes me happy. He's spent the last couple of years getting screwed, and I'm glad to see him getting back on his feet. The win at the shootout made me ungodly happy, and seeing him land 9th when all the other cars on his team didn't win made me even happier [no offense to Gordon, Jimmie Johnson, or Mears, but they haven't had the wringing out that Dale Jr.'s had.]
3. While listening to Darrell Waltrip's pre-race and in-race commentary, something struck me. At the beginning of every race, since the days when DW was still in car, he's always shouted "Boogity, Boogity, Boogity! Let's go racing, boys!" I sat there and wondered about the way that could be perceived if a woman ever drives regularly in Nascar. I see it as DW's way of telling the whole field to have a good time and enjoy themselves as much as he enjoys watching and talking about them, but I wonder if political correctness would cause some sort of muckery.
3a. In the vein of women in motorsports, I still don't understand the big deal over Danica Patrick. Yeah, she's a woman driving an Indy car, and I can appreciate how rare that is, but as I driver, I think she's pretty mediocre.
What are the chances that there's someone on the flist who keeps up with any of this at all? Surprise me, flist!
