I just finally sat down last night and watched my tape of the "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" season premiere.

I must say I am a little creeped out. Bobby went into obsession mode, and I really want to know why. Perhaps it is time I let Ron ask him. Ficlet below:

The intensity made him nervous. Ron was used to seeing Bobby intent on a case. He was used to the sheer amount of energy that Bobby invested in his work, but this level of concentration and obsession couldn't be healthy. When Bobby handed him the picture that Nelda had slipped in his pocket, Ron had to say something.

"Detective Iames, I'd like to speak with your partner for a minute, if I could."

Iames shrugged and stood up from her chair. She was used to stepping out during their meetings with the DA. Sometimes Ron really wanted to rip Bobby a new one. Sometimes she knew that they just needed to clear up who was cooking for whom that night. "I'm gonna head back to the office." She didn't wait for an answer before she left.

Ron waited for the door to latch before he walked around his desk and stood in front of Bobby. "This woman, Nelda, you're coming off as overly-involved with her."

"I'm investigating her."

"You gave her a badge." Ron watched Bobby carefully as he shoved his hands in his pockets and shuffled his feet a little.

"It doesn't mean anything. I'm getting her to trust me."

"Bobby, you're obsessing." Ron reached out and touched Bobby's arm, not surprised when the other man jerked in surprise. He wasn't used to being touched when he was obviously uncomfortable. Most people avoided contact with him because of his size. Ron had never had that problem. They were nearly eye-to-eye, and while Bobby was broader, it didn't intimidate Ron. What did intimidate Ron was when Bobby got so far into his own head that he had to practically get a search party together to go find him. "Talk to me."

"It's no big deal." Bobby shook his head and looked at Ron. "It's just that...she's awkward. She has her job. She knows it. After that..." He trailed off, but his meaning was clear to Ron.

Ron pressed his lips together and breathed out through his nose. "You've always had more than your job, Bobby." He took his hand off Bobby's arm and touched the back of his hand. "You can rely on more than your job and your brain."

Bobby tried to smile. "I know that."

"You don't, really." Ron didn't say it with anything flavoring his voice except for basic fact. "I'm here. Just know that, okay?"

Bobby rolled his shoulders and nodded. "Yeah. Okay."

Also, getting to see Fisher Stevens again, even if he did end up dead, was great. I loved him on "Early Edition".
