If he'd been better written in the series I might have a different opinion about Cain's ability to be noir. I think that Neal himself would KICK ASS at a noir something-or-other and I'd love to see it for sure!!

I like meta-ing about this stuff though. Like how I think that all the robot technology was kibbled together by alchemists because they could make it work, whereas in the real world it never would have. And how I think that one of the first acts of the Queen after she's reinstated is to junk all of the gas-powered vehicles and bring back horses. (Because also, I think horses are being eaten somewhere in the O.Z. Yes, even the different-coloured ones!)

I don't think the O.Z. ever goes back to being the pastoral place it used to be before AzkaD, but I think it does manage to get preserved and turned around.

But I also think that Cain and Ambrose are never the same people as they were before. I think that they change far too much to be able to fool themselves into thinking things are alright again. I mean, I am probably not going to have Glitch be successfully re-brained, for one thing. The Ambrose-brain will probably live in the basement, and Glitch can go and visit it occasionally (with Raw's help, of course) and eventually he does get a little more 'normal' but he's never totally himself again.

And Cain gets to be all gruff and clunky and mechanical, too! So that's also lots of coolness because you know he totally hates having his life saved by robots and kids and weirdoes. And also, he hates mechanical things and would much rather have a wooden leg instead (maybe he does, when he's at home?)

See, I just want to write a sequel to my own story, even though my own story is ages away from actually finishing, just so I can play with all the new improved characters!!!
