I haven't actually read your evisceration of Twilight 'cause I was waiting for you to finish, but that video was fucking awesome. :claps: Excuse me while I go read all the other entries about this you wrote. :3 :3 :3
You know about Cleolinda's summary of the entire series, right?
Damn, it is really that bad? Bummer, I was enjoying your posts. As opposite to having to listen to my co-worker blab away about how wonderful those books are and what a great story and hello?. Need to think about reevaluating said co-worker, because :O
I'm mildly impressed I made it that far. You might suggest to your co-worker to read "A Fine and Private Place" by Peter S. Beagle. Supernatural love story where both sides are not utter twats.
I'm actually glad I teach elementary school, not middle school, so I don't have to listen to the girls endlessly blather about Edward Cullen. Ugh. (Icon is commentary on people who think Edward is JUST THE DREAMIEST EVAR.)
Also, I dunno if you've tried the Dresden Files yet, by Jim Butcher. I like them a lot. Basic premise is a guy who's a wizard who has an ad in the Yellow Pages in Chicago, and he has to deal with bad guys and such. He's a dear heart, and snarky. And the vampires he encounters are douche-y, yet scary motherfuckers? Sort of?
One of them is named Bianca, but WE WILL NOT GO THERE.
If you find that you don't actually have time to read them, you could try listening to them? James Marsters (Spike of Buffy fame) reads them, and he's lovely as Harry. <3
Also, I noticed that a number of your recs are classified as children's books? I think that's cool. :D
I always have time for good books. I'm not an audio book person, though. I like reading and having the chance to go back.
I have a huge lit boner for good books written for kids and teenagers. "Charlotte's Web" still makes me sob, and I think that speaks more for it than any other praise I could give.
I like reading too, but I find that I read a lot of fic, so when I need to sit down and read physical books, I have trouble doing it for some reason. As such, since I know that I just have a lot of time not-reading while in the car, listening to something means that I'm semi-reading, but at the same time, I'm still able to concentrate on the road.
Ooh, have you ever read the Prydain Chronicles by Lloyd Alexander? Five book series, starts with The Book of Three. The end of The High King always makes me freaking cry, but in a sad, wistful good way? Not that good characters didn't die, but in terms of things being happy, even with separations happening and such.
