You're gonna have to think back a ways, but it basically goes like this: In the original plans for Voyager, Chakotay and Tom were meant to be exes. Hence, their tension the first few episodes are basically soaking in sexual tension. I don't know why it wasn't adjusted immediately after the pilot, but maybe they were trying to see how people reacted. I don't know. What I do know is that in the second episode of the series, Chakotay and Tom, when Janeway tells Chakotay he has the ship, share the following look:


I was at the gym when I was watching this and about fell off the machine. Because, come on, that is not a look two men who haven't had sex give one another. Especially on Tom's end. I am still so disappointed that they dropped this from canon. What is it with the current producers of Trek shows and their fear of teh ghey? I mean, yes, this was in '93, but remember when Trek was super-progressive? I miss those days. (For the record, Garak was also meant to be bi, and they put the kibosh on that one, too. Not that it stopped Andrew Johnson from flirting up a storm anyway.)
