perpetual_motion: guy and kyle huggle times (free hugz!)

One of the thoughts is about Guy and Tora, but the longer I think about it, the more complicated it gets, so I'm saving that one for the moment. I also have thinky-thoughts about Apollo and Midnighter, which are pretty short.

I'm not reading Stormwatch right now. I'm waiting for the first arc to finish up before I give it a shot. I like what I've read of Paul Cornell, but I'm still a little wary of hopping onto the book until I see how the first arc ends up.

I have been looking at preview pages and whatnot because I've started reading The Authority again, so I am very interested in how certain things pan out.

THEY BROKE UP MIDNIGHER AND APOLLO.

Okay, that's out of my system. I'm not particularly happy with this chain of events. I mean, hi, canonical gay couple who are happy and haven't been horribly murdered and worked really well together (I have scans coming sometime this week; don't you worry). So, yeah, I'm not thrilled with it. But at the same time, they seem to be setting it up to get them together, so they're not hetero-washing a great set of characters. I knew, with the relaunch, that some relationships were going to change, and honestly, as long as they end up together again and are treated with respect, I'll handle it.

But, oh, man, you guys, breaking them up means Jenny doesn't have her dads! And that, that hurts a lot. I haven't read all of The Authority, but I've seen the early days of Jenny Quantam and how hard they fought for her, and I've seen bits and pieces of them taking care of her, and I loved it. So, Jenny losing her dads kind of sucks.

But (there's always one with me, right?), just because they're not her dads now doesn't mean they won't become her dads. Who knows. Cornell--what I know of him--likes to build a big story, so maybe he's planning something epic wherein Apollo and Midnighter get together and take in Jenny and all will be right with the world.

That being said: Dear artists: Apollo has WHITE hair. Not blonde. WHITE. It has always been WHITE. An artist didn't accidentally screw up and make it white. It is WHITE. Please fix.

All those thinky-thoughts aside, anyone reading Stormwatch right now and have thoughts? I am curious how it's going.

I'm reading it but in all honestly I have no history of reading anything that came before. With no character backgrounds I'm really fishing for reasons to stick with it. Its not necessarily bad and I love J'onn but there's a lot that is unfamiliar to me.

That's it exactly. The rest of the characters aren't ones I know. That's not saying they are bad though. The book has good qualities, the story seems interesting I'm just having trouble jumping as thoroughly as I'd hoped I would.

To be honest though I bought a LOT of issue #1s figuring about half would be so bad that they wouldn't last to issue 2 and it has been the exact opposite. I've only dropped a couple titles out of the almost 30 I read. O_O I have to drop some because I just can't keep it up.

lol, I wasn't clear when I said I had read 30 titles. I read them but my best friend and I split the costs. If I was buying alone I'd be reading about 12 titles, most of them from the Bat-Family.

That said though, 12 is still WAY up from where I thought I'd be. Going in I had planned to buy 6 books, then best friend was all "I'll buy match you and we'll trade" so 6 went to twelve, then to seventeen or so, then when things came out we said 'lets give this and this and this a try'

Things are definitely getting cut we just have to decide what.

The first two trades of The Authority are my favorite comics ever. When it was announced that they'd be folded into the DCU I was more than just a little bit leery, especially about how Apollo and Midnighter would be handled. Then I read an interview with Cornell who said that he wanted to explore their relationship from the beginning. So yes. The boys will eventually be in the committed relationship. No word on whether Jenny will have her daddies, though.

I have the first issue of Stormwatch, and the second is on its way to me now. I'm having a really hard time getting past Midnighter's redesign. A BAMF like that should not look so fucking ridiculous.
