Now, I only stumble across this at
babb_chronicles, because she has the corneas to *look* at the shitty fic over and over and over again, but I think I'll hit the little fangirls the next time they make someone punk.
See, here's the thing. In the Harry Potter fandom there seems to be a great wave of people making Harry or another character a punk. Sure. Whatever. Rape the characters. Whatever gets your boat going.
But do you dumb, fangirling bints even know what punk is? If I ask you about The Ramones, will you know that they came before The Sex Pistols? Will you know that they started in 1974 in dirty bars in New York City? Will you know that The Sex Pistols came later [1979? I'm not quite sure], and that they were English, and that they are the reason punk is considered angry music while The Ramones are the reason that punk is three minutes long? If I quizzed you on Sid Vicious's death, could you give me details? If I quizzed you on The Ramones, would you even know who they *are*?
Here's the thing: Blink 182 is not punk. Avril is sure as *fuck* not punk. Wearing black, spiking your hair, dying it funny colors, or piercing parts of you that should *never* have holes is not punk. Just because you dress up a character that is not yours as a demented circus clown on heavy drugs does not mean that the character is punk.
But why not, cry the wee fangirls.
Because punk was about not accepting the way things were. The Ramones churned out three minutes songs because they were sick of Led Zepplin and their ripoffs writing seven, eight, or twenty minute songs. The Sex Pistols didn't like the look of modern music, so they changed it. They did it first. They did it best. Blink 182 and its cronies are a cheap knock-off of actual creativity and imagination.
And turning Harry Potter into Harry Potter and the Punked Out Hair is alose a cheap knock-off of actual creativity and imagination.
So fuckin' stop.
Or I'll starting beating on the brat.
