If you missed yesterday's post, I've got a stack of trades up for sale for $5 apiece. Some of them have already been claimed, but there's plenty left. And this is the LOOOONG list. What's listed here is just what I feel like listing today. I still have a column in my notebook to get through, and I'll post the rest of it tomorrow.
Runaways, the first series, -- 7 trades -- $35
(A great series about teenagers becoming superheroes because their parents were evil. , The cover on the first one is loose on the spine, but they'll all in good shape.)
The Escapist -- 1 trade -- $5
(This is a weird one. They're fake comics based on a fake superhero in "The Amazing Adventures of Kavalier and Clay." No, really. Good read, but it doesn't make a lot of sense if you don't know the book."
Filthy Rich -- 1 trade [hardback] -- $5
(This one is a one-shot crime story from Vertigo's crime line. It's a great read, done in a very stark black and white art style. I really enjoyed it.)
Empowered, vol. 1 -- 1 trade -- $5
(Empowered comes out in volumes, like Scott Pilgrim did. This is the first volume of six. I love this series. It's a lot of in-jokes to comics and managa and has a great sense of humor.)
The Question: Zen and Violence -- 1 trade -- $5
(This is the first arc for the relaunch of The Question (Vic Sage) in the 1980s. Great read, totally '80s comic book art.)
X-Men: Deadly Genesis -- 1 trade -- $5
(A standalone X-Men miniseries by Ed Brubaker. Professor X, it turns out, is kind of a douche. Very good read.)
X-23: Innocence Lost -- 1 trade -- $5
(The origin for X-23 by Christopher Yost. This is what got me onto his work, and it's always very good and bloody.)
After the Cape: Too Far to Fall -- 1 trade -- $5
(A superhero story in the real world where the supe in question becomes a deadbeat. I don't think I ever finished reading this one.)
Wisdom: Rudiments of Wisdom -- 1 trade -- $5
Captain Britain & MI: 13: Secret Invasion, Hell Comes to Birmingham, and Vampire State -- $15
(I'm listing these together because Wisdom is the miniseries that helped get Captain Britain & MI: 13 into an ongoing book. The mini is about Pete Wisdom, one of the many X-Men, and CB & MI: 13 is a team book about British supes. Lots of magic and fantasy stuff going on in this book. It's a lot of fun.)
X-Men: Angel-Revelations -- 1 trade -- $5
(I bought this on a whim and loved it. It's a standalone mini from the Marvel Knights line, and the art is beautifully exaggerated and perfect. It's Warren in high school, and he's getting tracked down by a crazy dude out to kill signs of God in the name of God. Weird and awesome.)
Identity Crisis -- 1 trade -- $5
(If you don't know what this is, it's proably best to Google it and know the contention around it. Personally, I like the overall story arc, but I see why people get pissed about who gets murdered.)
Nextwave: Agents of Hate -- 1 trade (full series) -- $5
(Nextwave is Warren Ellis goin balls out crazy on superheroes. It's main Marvel U, so there's minimal cussing, but it is gloriously Ellis in its weirdness and sense of deranged fun. Everyone needs to read this.)
Silver Surfer: Requiem -- 1 trade -- $5
(A beautiful, heartbreaking, standalone mini about Silver Surfer dying. I've read no other SS, but I adore this to pieces.)
Marvel: 1602 -- 1 trade -- $5
(Probably my favorite AU in the world. Take all the heroes you know from the Marvel Universe and stick them in 1602. It's fantastic. I love it.)
Wanted -- 1 trade -- $5
(If you've seen the film, it's damned close, though there's a multiverse angle that didn't make it into the film. Super violent and offensive, but it's Mark Millar without the need to write for a certain age range. Good times.)
Batman: The Long Halloween and Dark Victory -- 2 trades -- $10
(A beautifully written, beautifully illustrated set of connected stories that stand alone from the rest of the Batman mythos. TLH and DV are in the same universe, but they are not canonical Bats, making it a fabulous introduction for someone who wants to get into Bats without having to worry about continuity getting into the hot mess stage.)
Fables: Legends in Exile, Animal Farm, Storybook Love, March of the Wooden Soliders, The Mean Seasons -- 5 trades (water damage on the first) -- $25
Fables: 1001 Nights of Snowfall -- 1 trade (hardback) -- $5
(Love. This. Series. Great characters, great plots, and a fantastic hook: Public Domain fairy tale characters (Snow White, The Big Bad Wolf, and tons of others) live in modern-day New York, having fled their Homelands because of a huge, devouring war. 1001 Nights of Snowfall is a standalone trade of short tales about a few different characters and should not be read first but should definitely be read.)
Okay, that's it for now. I promise to have the rest up tomorrow. I want to include a little bit about each one for anyone interested in getting in on something good, so it takes a little more effort to list things, and I'm lazy.
