I don't know who can actually watch what on hulu.com, as I know parts of it are cut off if you're not 'merican, but what I know is that I got to watch "Wilby Wonderful" tonight, and it was lovely.
Callum Keith Rennie has been one of my guys since he was Ray K [completely unoriginal, I know], and since The Husband and I started watching "Battlestar Galactica" [only as far as the end of the miniseries], it reminded me that I haven't seen a lot of CKR's stuff.
"Wilby Wonderful" will soon be bought and put on the shelf with the rest of the movies [656 at last count], and it will go on my list of "nearly cried but didn't and felt like humanity was awesome at the end of it". "Wilby Wonderful" is a really good film for a lot of reasons. The acting is great, the writing is strong, and the directing and editing really make everything flow beautifully. I'm also a sucker for any movie that shows the warts of a small town without the "OMG WACKY" aspect, and that's what I got with this film.
I will say, however, that whoever is in charge of categorizing films in which CKR is a part needs to, perhaps, re-learn the rules of specific genres. I think "Wilby Wonderful" falls much more into the drama category than in the comedy category. Yes, there are funny moments, but overall, I think it's a dramatic film. Also, "Hard Core Logo" is in no way some sort of Canadian "Spinal Tap" and whoever said it and then got it slapped on the back of the packaging should get their ass kicked.
